Spencer and his younger sibling, Katherine, are traveling to Pennsylvania for Christmas with their father. While evolving planes, a snow squall moves in and counteracts all flights of Hoover Airport: they must stay in a cellar room with the other unaccompanied minors. Spencer and four others – a rotund kid, a relentless talker, a surly young lady, and a rich child – go AWOL and get stuck in an unfortunate situation with Mr. Watchman, the Christmas-detesting airplane terminal director.
